Painting Skies and Ocean Scenes

In this class, we will explore techniques for painting skies and ocean scenes. You will learn how to blend colors seamlessly to create smooth transitions, as well as how to depict reflections and the movement of water. Each session will encourage personal expression and creativity.

Materials Needed:

  • Acrylic Paints: A variety of blue shades, along with white, black, brown, red, and a small amount of yellow.
  • Paintbrushes: ( typically found in a pack) A selection of brushes, including:
    • Flat
    • Round
    • Fan
    • Angled
    • Small-pointed (for detail)
    • Filbert
  • Canvas: A canvas panel or stretched canvas, preferably 14″ x 12″ or larger, but not too large, as each class lasts one hour.
  • Brush Cleaning Supplies:
    • A glass of water for rinsing brushes (you may add a small amount of Murphy’s oil soap).
    • Paper towels and a soft rag for cleaning brushes and wiping areas.
  • Palette: A plate, palette, or any non-absorbent surface for mixing paint.
  • Blending Brush: This is not included in the recommended paint sets. A soft makeup brush (such as one from a dollar store) can work well as an alternative.

With these materials, you’ll be ready to create beautiful sky and ocean paintings while refining your artistic skills!

This introductory acrylic painting class is flexible, allowing you to use whatever tools you have available or can easily purchase. Below are some suggested materials for reference, but feel free to adapt based on what you can find. Supplies are also readily available at local craft stores, Dollar Stores, home improvement stores, Target, and more.
