The Climb: Equivalent to Mt. Everest

The Team at Mary’s Place by the Sea is so grateful to cheer on David & Joshua Johnson as they participate in the remarkable 29029 Everesting Event in Jackson Hole, WY.

On July 19th, 2024 the father and son duo will be climbing the mountain range a total of 19 times to achieve the height of over 29029 vertical feet which is the equivalent height of Mt. Everest! Together, they will represent Mary’s Place by the Sea as they fundraise and bring awareness to our organization on their incredible journey.

In addition, each lap that David & Joshua climb will be dedicated to individuals whose lives were or are currently impacted by disease, in most cases related to cancer. Each person’s name will be carried by David and Joshua on that particular lap.

Connection to Our Mission

When David reached out to our Team in regards to representing Mary’s Place by the Sea on his Everesting pursuit, we were not only honored but touched by his personal connection to our mission. After David had his own personal experience with cancer back in 2021, he shared the impact that holistic, whole body support and treatment had on him during his healing journey.

In his testimonial, David shared the following sentiment, “In March of 2021, my body was diagnosed with AML or acute myeloid leukemia. Through what I sometimes refer to as the 4 critical aspects of my healing, I am now living a life with a renewed sense of purpose.”

The Impact of Healing

For David, the following aspects are what helped him on his cancer journey:

“One: the loving support of my amazing wife, family, friends and people that I didn’t even know who prayed for me. Two: the amazing dedicated group of doctors, nurses, technicians and staff at Hackensack Meridian Hospital. Three: the holistic whole body support and treatments that I received. four: a spiritual/meditation practice that allowed my body to heal and changed me from the inside out.”

David went on to say, “When I was undergoing treatment, I was aware of how fortunate I was to have all of these 4 critical pieces to healing and that this was something not available to most people going through the same challenges. I wanted to be able to give back and be a part of expanding this type of whole human health care to others. Mary’s Place by the Sea, in Ocean Grove, NJ, is such a place that provides this supportive care and services to women whose bodies are going through a cancer journey. Joshua and I would be forever grateful for any contribution to this loving caring organization. We will all rise together, they will inspire us to climb the next lap and we hope to inspire them.”

Gratitude for Community

We are thankful to know that David truly believes in what our mission strives to provide for women with cancer: a safe, loving and supportive place where they can focus on healing their mind, body & soul.
